Rosehill

Rosehill Cemetery is a Victorian era cemetery on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois, USA. This is a very proper monument to the past, and its first use was in 1859. The gothic and very ornate entrance was constructed in 1864 and has been classified as a historic landmark. Therein lie many great Americans such as Milton Florsheim, Oscar Mayer, Montgomery Ward, as well as Richard Sears. Taphophiles come from all over the US to make serious gravestone rubbings.

The neigbhborhood itself is filled with lovely homes that entice those who desire a locale that is peaceful. As an older neighborhood it is lined with lush trees everywhere, and gives a wonderful out of the city feeling to the homes there.

The park’s original plan was quite ambitious for 1909. It included an athletic field, a running track, playgrounds, a natatorium, wading and swimming pools. Later, in 1977 a large three-storied field house was built which included an indoor pool, assembly hall cum gymnasium and six classrooms. The residents are effectionately refer to its size as a “high-rise” park.

Many of the residents residential blocks have homes that have old-fashioned courtyards featuring many different patches of greenery. Most of it has been designated a historic district. This gives the area a wonderful sense of history enjoyed by both visitors as well as residents.
