Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Moving Company

As a business owner, you know that productivity and efficiency are critical keys to your business’s success. But those policies don’t just apply to your employees. If you’re relocating your business, then you want to ensure that your commercial moving company is working as effectively and efficiently as possible. Here are a few things that you can do to make sure you get the most out of your commercial movers.

Have Employees Clear Desks

Your commercial movers should have to worry about juggling employees’ personal items and figuring out where those desktop decorations belong. Make sure your employees completely clear off their desks and empty their drawers before the move. For optimum efficiency, have employees put all their items in a box and take those boxes home with them. They can simply bring them to the new building once you’re all moved in and set their desks back up then.

If you want the movers to move these items, you should still have your employees put them in boxes. Just label them with each employee’s name and have a designated area for the movers to put the boxes. That way, when you get to your new location, your employees can easily find their labeled box of items and take it to their new desks.

Unplug and Wind Cords

Disconnecting electronics and winding up their cords can take an absurd amount of time for your movers. But if each employee takes just a few minutes to unplug their computers and other equipment and appropriately wrap up the cords, it can save your movers a great deal of time. That way, they can simply pick up and move the equipment, furniture, and other items, instead of crawling beneath desks to unplug things.

Communicate Clearly

Clear and effective communication is another key to business success—and to business relocation as well. Make sure you have clearly communicated to your movers the dates, times, and locations that you need them. The last thing you want is for your movers to have the wrong address of your new building and for all of your equipment to end up in the wrong place as a result.

Prep New Location

Hopefully, the place that you’re moving your business to will already be cleaned out and completely move-in ready. However, it never hurts to double-check this. If necessary, prep the new location for your movers by removing any unnecessary items, clearing out any cords or debris obstructing the floor, and doing some general cleaning. This will make the relocation much smoother and easier, as your movers won’t need to navigate around other objects.

Let Them Work

You’re a business owner, and therefore, a natural manager. But odds are, you’re not an expert in commercial relocation—your movers, on the other hand, are. So, do your best to stand back and let your movers do their jobs. While you may need to give occasional directions about where you would like furniture placed and so on, as much as possible, you should let the experts handle this. They’ll be much more effective if you do.

You want your corporate relocation to go off without a hitch, and you want to get the most out of your movers while you’re doing it. If you’re relocating your business, contact Wolley Movers for the best commercial moving in Chicago.
